Keeping it Green

We have learned and continue to learn, a great deal about the history of candles, the products used to create them and about sustainable alternatives to paraffin, soy, palm & coconut waxes. As a result of this, we carefully consider all the materials we use to ensure they are safe to burn in your homes, sustainable and environmentally friendly.

All of our candles are hand-poured in small batches using traditional methods.

The main component of a candle is wax and with one of our primary focuses being to be kind to the environment, it was important to us to source a sustainable eco-wax.

As a plant, rapeseed is an important crop for British agriculture and has been grown in the UK for centuries - it was first introduced by the Romans who used it primarily for its oil. It has many uses including, feeding our animals, cooking oil, candle wax and more recently has been used to produce bio-fuel.

Rapeseed wax has a low carbon footprint, being primarily sourced from the UK with a small portion from France & Germany - it hasn’t travelled the oceans like other imported waxes such as soy, coconut & palm.

No GMO’s are used in the farming process, bees LOVE the nectar that rapeseed plants produce and despite the popularity of rapeseed oil and wax, it continues to flourish throughout the UK and Europe. With the added bonus that no habitats have to be destroyed in order to grow rapeseed.

It is non-hazardous, biodegradable, harmless to wildlife and vegan friendly.

So, for those of you looking for clean burning candles, excellent fragrance retention with minimal impact on the environment, rapeseed wax is the obvious choice and we absolutely love it!

Our wicks are made from pure long strand ring spun cotton and paper.  The particular series we use offers reduced smoke and soot.

Our fragrances are carefully selected from recognised industry suppliers to ensure they are safe for use in candles. We use gorgeous amber glass jars which can be repurposed or recycled.

When it comes to our packaging, we have made conscious decisions to ensure it is recyclable once it has served its purpose. The packing tape we use can be recycled with the cardboard box.  The packing peanuts are made from recycled materials, they are biodegradable, compostable and can be recycled or reused.
